My name is Amina and I come from Kaliningrad in Russia. I am a second year student at the University of Wales Trinity Saint David, where I am doing a BA in Accounting. I have excellent grades so far, I am actively involved in University life as well, including being the representative for my course and supporting other international students.
I was brought up in a family, originally from Tajikistan, where even during hardship my parents paid a lot of attention to the education of their children.
I am the eldest child in the family, which means that apart from being emotionally supportive, I need to be financially responsible for my parents and 4 younger sisters in the future.
I was born in Tajikistan, but was forced to flee with my family to Russia after the consequences of the civil war made it extremely hard for my parents to earn a living.
My parents run a small shoe retail business, which unfortunately has proved to be unprofitable because of the Russian financial crisis (2014-present). It was incredibly hard for them to pay for my tuition fees for the first and the second academic years at university. They are now financially exhausted and unable to pay for my third academic year, which will start in September 2017. The tuition fees are 10,400 pounds.
Currently, I combine studies and part-time work. This gives me enough income to cover rent and personal expenses. I work the maximum number of hours my student visa permits.
In order to achieve my goal of graduating from a UK university and securing a job within the financial sector, which will support my family, I desperately need my education. My hopes and the dreams of my family are that I will be the first to graduate and will be able to support the education of my younger siblings. In particular, my Mum has provided so much support and emotional encouragement to complete my education. She is my role model and has spent her entire life defending her daughter's’ right to be educated. As my parents get older, I will continue this support for my sisters. Please give me an opportunity to finish my third year at university, I will succeed, I will be grateful and I will reciprocate the kindness and generosity shown to me by helping my family and others in need. Education is a way for me to sustain my life and goals, but it will also help me to sustain the life and goals of others too.
